I Just Figured It Out

The real reason the church is so adamant about passing Prop 8: the logistical and financial nightmare of having to retroactively change all manuals and written materials about and requirements for chastity to specify that being legally and lawfully married is no longer quite enough to be considered "chaste"...

Why didn't I see it sooner? Makes so much more sense now. :-P

Yup! The church would be forced to change a stance... either they would have to accept gay sex within marriage as valid, or they'd have to out and out admit their current-anti gay stance. Either way, they lose. Oh, and it would probably cost a lot of money to produce a new video explaining why they really are right and not science.

lol...

I think the concept of different types of family is threatening to the Church as well...

For example, how are missionaries expected to convert a family with two dads when it is obvious that this family will not be eternal?

Ha! I totally beat you to that realization. I figured it out during my own endowment session in 1999, in the midst of the Prop 22 hullabaloo. I thought, "they're gonna need to change the wording on this whole law of chastity thing. Maybe I could get gay sealed in the temple through a loophole....
