Chicago Officials Back Opening Gay High School

Surely there are other minority groups who feel threatened or "in danger". Wimpy dweebs, for one, not to mention racial tensions in certain parts of the country. And surely there are other groups who could benefit just as much from having their own schools with specialized curriculums and homogeneous student bodies.
"Social Justice Pride Campus" where sexual identity issues will be a focus? OK, just as long as we have another school for low-income kids where financial or socioeconomic issues are a focus. And another for students diagnosed with depression where coping skills are a focus. And another for gifted students where channeling your mental energy is a focus. And...wait, who's ridiculous idea was this?!

'Course, if they ever did High School Musical, it would be FABULOUS.
they have a GLTB high school in NYC that's pretty successful from what i understand. they treat it like a magnet-school (like drama, language, music etc.) chicago's just jumping on the bandwagon

Really? Constructing a gay high school is not the answer. Educating youth about tolerance and diversity, ok. Increasing safety within schools, ok. Segregating gays? NOT ok. Using "fear" as an excuse? NOT ok...
Once again, it seems that government officials have found the wrong solution... :/
I don't have an issue with GLTB schools as long as peoples like me can attend- I just have an issue with using fear tactics to rationalize the decision.

Wow. And I knew nothing of this. Maybe I'd heard of it, actually, but just thought it was a joke.
Successful or not, I understand the desire to make all students feel safe at school so they can focus on their education, but ...I'm sorry, but I just don't buy into this. I guess they have boys' and girls' schools, which is a form of segregation, but...this just seems different. Excuse me while I gather my thoughts enough to figure out my gut opposition to this...
Oh, an actual high school... I thought you were going to talk about the upcoming movie, High School Musical 3...
